Born in 1969, Osman Fırat Baş is an associate professor of Polish Language and Literature. He's a literary scholar and translator. After graduating from Ankara University's Faculty of Language and History-Geography, he worked as a translator at the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Ankara from 1998 to 2017. Since 2017, he has been working at the Institute of Slavic Languages of the Faculty of Classical Philology and Polish Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. For his translation work, he was honoured with a Letter of Thanks from the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2006, the Honor Award for the Promotion of Polish Literature Worldwide by the Polish Culture Foundation in 2014, the "Outstanding Service Medal of Polish Culture" by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in 2015, the Ryszard Kapuscinski Translators New Language Translation Award in 2016, and the Literary Translator Award by the Writers' Union ZAiKS in 2019.
