A psychiatrist, training and supervising analyst, and the former president of the Italian Psychoanalytic Society. The former president of the International Psychoanalytical Association and the founder and president of the Interregional Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Psychoanalysis of the International Psychoanalytical Association. He is the author of more than 250 articles and books published in several languages. He works and lives in Bologna, Italy.
